On this Joe Pisapia Interview, Joe talks about his new LP, about being “in the belly of the earth”… why recording his own LPs allow him more experimentation and how bands he produces benefit from this, knowing when “enough is enough,” musically… Also a rebroadcast of Joe’s original long-form interview show: the difficulty of having to leave a couple of situations – one musical, and one family. Working w/ kd lang and Ben Folds Five, getting seriously sick on the road, a very scary message from the Universe that almost cost Joe his career, moving to Nashville from New Jersey, getting married, work ethic, learning to cut yourself some slack, and why everything is an experiment. REALLY cool guy, very warm convo:
Joe Pisapia is a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who’s best known for his work as a member of Guster & k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang. He co-produced and co-wrote Guster’s 2006 release, Ganging Up On the Sun, an album that cracked Billboard’s Top 25 and was one of the best selling albums of the year. He did the same on the band’s 2010 Easy Wonderful. He produced and penned the title track for kd lang’s 2011 album, Sing It Loud, and was MD for the accompanying tour. As a producer and mixer, he’s worked on some of the finest indie rock and pop and Americana records to come out of Nashville in the last few years. Among his credits are: Ben Folds Five, The Hush Kids, Zac Clark and loads of others. Joe has just released his 3rd solo LP, Imbolc. It’s a beautiful record filled with well-written, melancholy songs.
